Airport transfers & shuttles

Book a private taxi or shared shuttle between the airport and your hotel — especially useful for late arrivals, heavy luggage or unfamiliar cities.

Airport ↔ hotel · City ↔ city · Prices on partner site

The last hour of the flight is on the road

A pre-booked transfer is for the moments public transport is a bad joke: a 00:40 landing, three suitcases, a car seat, a resort that is not on a rail map. It is not automatically better than a metro ticket in central Madrid at 14:00. The useful comparison is door-to-door time, how you pay, and who is waiting if the flight is late.

Private cars, shared shuttles and hotel-run coaches are different products. Live prices and vehicle types sit on the partner search below. We do not invent a fare. Match the drop-off to the actual hotel or apartment, not to the city’s name.

Private car, shared shuttle, or the train

A private transfer waits for your flight, takes you to one address, and costs more per car than per seat. That is the right buy for late arrivals, families, ski bags, and first nights in a city you do not want to navigate with jet lag. A shared shuttle is cheaper and slower because it drops other hotels first. Fine in daylight; grim at 1am with a toddler.

Trains and licensed airport buses win when they run often, the station is close to your bed, and you can handle the bags. El Prat to Barcelona, Schiphol to Amsterdam, Heathrow to Paddington — those are the cases where a transfer is optional, not essential. Resort islands and Canary south coasts are the opposite: the transfer is the trip until you reach the pool.

Meet points, flight tracking and waiting time

Read where the driver stands. “Arrivals hall with a name board” is not the same as “outside door 4 after you have collected bags”. Some airports make you walk to a car park. Screenshot the instructions while you still have Wi‑Fi — or set up data first on the eSIM page.

Decent operators track the inbound flight and include a waiting window after landing. That window is the product. A cheap quote that starts the meter the minute the wheels touch down will feel expensive after immigration. If you already know the arrival is a last wave, say so in the notes and pick a provider that states waiting time in minutes, not in adjectives.

Child seats, late changes, extra stops

If you need a child seat, say so when you book — do not assume a spare lives in the boot. Extra stops (a second hotel, a supermarket) are often a different price. A change of flight number should be updated; a change of airport usually needs a new booking. Cancellation terms matter more on transfers than people think, because airlines move times more often than hotels do.

  • Flight number and terminal, not only the city pair.
  • Waiting time after landing, in minutes.
  • Child-seat type and how many.
  • Whether the quote is per car or per person.

When a hire car is the real answer

A transfer is a one-off airport move. If you will drive all week — Crete, Tenerife, Costa del Sol inland days — compare car hire instead of stacking transfers every morning. If you only need the ride to the hotel and will walk after that, do not rent a car to solve a 40-minute problem.

Once the hotel is chosen, the drop-off pin should match the stays guide neighbourhood, not a generic “city centre”. For lounge time before you even leave the building, use airport lounges. Then run the partner search with the real addresses.

Airport transfer FAQs

Is a private transfer better than a taxi queue?

It is better when you want a known price, a child seat, and someone who is supposed to wait for a late inbound. A taxi queue can be fine in the middle of the day at a well-signed airport. At midnight, or with a lot of luggage, pre-booking is the calmer version of the same road.

What if my flight is delayed?

Choose an operator that tracks flight numbers and states a waiting period after landing. Update them if the airline changes the flight number, not only the time. A shared shuttle may not wait as long as a private car. Read that line before you pay, not in the arrivals hall.

Shared shuttle or private car?

Shared if you are on a budget, travelling light, and landing in daylight toward a resort strip with many hotels. Private if you value time, have children or bulky bags, or arrive after public transport has thinned out. The extra stops on a shuttle are the hidden duration.

Should I just hire a car at the airport?

Hire a car if you will use it on the holiday. Do not hire one only to cover the airport-to-hotel leg and then pay for parking all week in a city you meant to walk. Transfers and hire cars solve different weeks.

Late arrivalsPre-book a driver instead of queuing for taxis after a long flight.

Prefer to drive?

If you need a car for several days, compare hire options separately — transfers suit one-off airport moves.

Need lounge time instead?

For long layovers inside the terminal, lounge access can be a better fit than ground transport.
