The space is for the car — the product is for the terminal
UK airport parking is not one car park with a single price. Heathrow T5 and T2, Gatwick North and South, Manchester’s three terminals: the shuttle, the walking time and the last collection hour all change. A cheap-looking off-site lot that stops running at 23:00 is a false saving if your inbound lands at 23:40.
Pre-book once the flight dates are firm. School-holiday Fridays and 05:00 departures are when on-the-day hunt-and-hope fails. Live rates are in pounds on the partner site — we do not invent a figure here. Compare the total for your exact dates, not a “from” banner.
On-site, park-and-ride, or meet-and-greet
On-site or official airport car parks keep you closest to the terminal, often with a short bus or a walk. They cost more in peak weeks and still fill. Park-and-ride (off-site) trades a shuttle for a lower rate. The shuttle frequency and whether it runs through the night matter more than the photo of the compound.
Meet-and-greet means you hand the keys at the terminal and collect there on return. It suits early flights, lots of luggage, and anyone who does not want a bus with children at 04:30. It is also the product where you must read insurance, fuel and excess rules — you are lending the car. Height barriers, oversized vehicles and electric charging are easy to miss in a hurry.
Match the terminal before you pay
A Heathrow booking that dumps you at T4 when you fly from T5 wastes the buffer you bought the parking to protect. The same is true at Gatwick if your airline moved terminals after you booked the holiday. Check the flight’s terminal the week you travel, not only the week you paid for the space.
Allow more time than the car-park’s marketing “eight minutes to the terminal”. Add the shuttle wait, the walk with cases, and security on a Monday in August. Fast Track security is a separate product — useful beside parking when the outbound is tight, useless if it is sold for the wrong terminal. See the Fast Track card below.
What the voucher has to tell you
Before you treat the booking as done, confirm transfer frequency, the last shuttle or office hour on your return night, cancellation terms, and what happens if the inbound is diverted. Some products need you to keep a booking reference on a phone with battery. Screenshot it.
- Terminal and car-park name, not only the airport word.
- Return-night opening hours versus your scheduled landing plus a delay buffer.
- Vehicle height, number of spaces, and whether a second driver can collect.
- Cancellation window if the airline moves the flight by a day.
If you are not driving at all
Parking only helps the person who leaves a car at the UK end. If the whole group is flying, an airport transfer or a rail ticket is the actual problem. If you are staying near the airport the night before a dawn departure, an airport hotel plus a short shuttle often beats a 03:00 drive from home.
For the flight itself, start with flight search so dates and terminals exist before you buy a week in a compound. Related lounge time for the wait after you park is on the lounges page.
UK airport parking FAQs
When should I book airport parking?
Once outbound and return dates are unlikely to move. School holidays, Christmas and Monday-morning business banks fill Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester first. An early-morning departure is the other reason to stop relying on a spare bay at 04:00. Compare the full stay, not a one-day sample rate.
Is meet-and-greet worth it?
It is worth it when you would otherwise take a shuttle with lots of bags, children, or a departure before park-and-ride buses feel civil. Read who drives the car, insurance and excess, and the exact drop-off kerb. It is not automatically “premium parking” — it is a different labour model.
What if my return flight is late?
That is why last-bus and office hours matter. A car park that closes the desk at 23:00 can still let you collect if the product says so — or it can leave you until morning. Read that line before you pay. If you already know the inbound is a last wave from the Canaries, prefer on-site or a 24-hour operation.
Do you show parking prices here?
No. Rates move with dates, terminals and how full the car park is. The partner site shows pounds for the search you run. SkyStayTravel does not invent a “typical” figure that will be wrong the week you travel.
