A city-and-island weekend
Split rewards first-timers who pick palace or Riva on purpose. Non-stops from several London airports make the airborne part simple. The trip fails when you land late, skip the taxi, and drag two cabin bags up palace stone.
Which London airport actually fits
Several London airports sell Split. None is reliably cheapest. Count the train from home and the airline’s bag rules. A cheaper Luton fare from south London can lose to a Heathrow ticket once you add the first coach.
London airports — quick compare
| Airport | Best For | Main Advantage | Main Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow (LHR) | West London; full-service | Frequency / connections | Peak queues; often dearer headlines |
| Gatwick (LGW) | South / south-east | Strong leisure short-haul | Awkward from north of the river |
| Stansted (STN) | North-east / Essex; low headlines | Often cheapest ticket | Express + cross-London time |
| Luton (LTN) | North / M1 corridor | Regular low-cost schedules | Early starts; DART/coach hops |
Airlines on this route
easyJet, Ryanair, Croatia Airlines, British Airways and others appear. Most use SPU.
Kaštela and the ride into town
SPU is inland. Buses reach palace and Riva; taxis help after midnight. The Split stays guide is the place to weigh palace versus Riva versus an overnight on Hvar.
Bags and boats
Many London–Split fares include only a small personal item. Blue Lagoon boats sell out in July. Browse Split experiences if you want harbours, Krka or a Hvar day rather than only a hotel pool.
