Antalya · Turkey · stays guide

Antalya is the best-value beach week you can fly to from the UK right now. But where you stay makes or breaks it — so here's the honest version before you book.

The short answer

Stay in Kaleiçi for your first trip, Lara if you want a beach-resort week. Skip the far-out mega-resorts unless you never plan to leave the pool. Typical good 4-star stays are approximately £55–£75 per room per night for a standard room for up to 2 adults — an approximate 2026 planning guide. Booking earlier can sit below that band.

Where to stay

Pick the right area first — it matters more than the hotel

Antalya isn't one place. These are the four you'll see, and who each actually suits.

Antalya sleep bases — schematic (not to scale)
Mediterranean Kaleiçi Old town · harbour Lara Beach · AI week Konyaaltı Local beach Belek / Side Mega-resorts Pin the neighbourhood before the hotel photo

Traveller tip: Book the area before the resort photo. First trip / walkable Turkey → Kaleiçi. Beach all-inclusive → Lara. Local seaside → Konyaaltı. Belek & Side only if you never plan to leave the grounds.

Kaleiçi (Old Town)

Best first trip

This is the Antalya you picture: cobbled lanes, Ottoman houses turned into little boutique hotels, a harbour at the bottom of the hill. You can walk everywhere and it actually feels like Turkey, not a resort strip. The catch — the beaches right here are small and pebbly. You stay in Kaleiçi for the atmosphere and the walkability, not for sunbathing. Walk down to the harbour; simit before Hadrian's Gate, not a restaurant on the quay at noon.

Wrong for: families who mainly want an all-inclusive pool day.

Lara

Best for beach & resorts

Long sandy beach, big all-inclusive hotels, and the place to go if you want to switch your brain off for a week — pool, buffet, beach, repeat. It's about 20 minutes from the old town, so you can still nip in for a day of culture without committing to it. This is where most people actually mean when they say "Antalya holiday." AYT about 20 minutes; beach in the morning, taxi to Kaleiçi for supper — not the buffet at 19:00 every night if you wanted the city.

Wrong for: anyone who wants to stroll out to a different restaurant every night.

Konyaaltı

Best for a local feel

A long beach on the other side of the city, backed by the mountains, with more Turkish families than tourists. The food's better value and it feels like a real neighbourhood rather than a holiday bubble. You trade a bit of resort polish for something more genuine. Tram or taxi along the beach; a dürüm inland of the promenade, not Lara resort prices. Sunset on the sand, then town.

Good if: you've done Antalya before and want less of a tourist bubble this time.

The far-out mega-resorts (Belek & Side)

Think twice

The hotels here are genuinely stunning, no argument. But they're 30–45 minutes from Antalya itself, and a lot of people book them without clocking that they're nowhere near the city they flew to — then spend the week paying taxi fares to get anywhere. Fine if the resort itself is the whole holiday. Not fine if you wanted to actually see Antalya. Side's Apollo temple at sunset if you leave once — skip a lunch taxi into Kaleiçi at 14:00 in the heat.

Only book if: you genuinely never plan to leave the resort grounds.

Straight talk

What we'd tell a mate before they book

  • All-inclusive genuinely makes sense in Antalya. Unlike some spots where it's a trap, the big resorts here do it well and the food-and-drink markup outside the hotel is the real catch — so paying up front often works out.
  • Book the area before you fall for the photos. A gorgeous hotel in the wrong location will have you stuck in taxis all week. Pick Kaleiçi or Lara first, then choose the hotel.
  • "Five minutes from the airport" is a warning, not a perk. It usually means you're far from everything else worth being near.
  • Shoulder season isn't a compromise here. May and October give you the same beach and better prices than August — book those and thank yourself later.

Still deciding

Arriving at AYT and package timing

Antalya Airport (AYT) sits just east of the city — roughly 20 minutes to Lara, around 40 to Side in light traffic. Package holidays from the UK often bundle flight, hotel and transfers — compare board basis carefully before you commit. Many travellers pair a Kaleiçi night or two with resort nights east or west of the city.

Lara, Kaleiçi or Belek for a first resort trip?

Lara for the shortest airport transfers and big themed resorts; Belek for wider beaches and golf-and-spa hotels. Side adds Roman ruins beside the sand, a little further out.

Is Kaleiçi enough for a week?

It's better suited to a long weekend. Pair a couple of old-town nights with resort nights east or west if you want daily pool time.

Lara or Konyaaltı for a beach week?

Lara for big all-inclusive resorts and the classic UK package feel; Konyaaltı if you want a more local seaside strip and better-value food.

Should I book Belek for a first Antalya trip?

Only if the resort itself is the holiday. Belek and Side sit 30–45 minutes from the city — fine for never-leave-the-grounds weeks, awkward if you wanted Kaleiçi evenings.
