UK rail itinerary

Scotland by rail: Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness

UK rail travel at its best: city-centre stations, a fifty-minute Central Belt hop, and the Highland line when you have time for Loch Ness without flying.

Start in Edinburgh or arrive from London on the east coast. Glasgow is a second city, not a separate flight. Inverness is the end of the useful passenger timetable for most visitors.

Edinburgh — three nights

Waverley between Old Town and New Town. Castle, Mile, and a day that does not need a car. Edinburgh stays · Edinburgh activities · arrival notes on London to Edinburgh.

Glasgow — one or two nights

Edinburgh to Glasgow in about fifty minutes to Queen Street. Merchant City and the West End. Glasgow stays · Glasgow activities.

Inverness — one or two nights

Highland railhead. Loch Ness as a tour or a hire-car day. Inverness guide.

Tickets Advance fares reward fixed dates. A Railcard, if you qualify, often covers its cost on Edinburgh alone. Book via Trip.com UK trains.
Railcard tip Check whether a Railcard can reduce the cost of this journey before booking. See the UK Railcard guide, then compare fares on Trip.com trains.
