How to think about this route
Multiple daily non-stops serve the route and are usually the simplest choice. Gulf one-stops can undercut on sale weeks if you accept longer travel time and any layover visa rules — compare total journey time, not only time in the air.
Before choosing, compare the full journey: travel to your London airport, security time, connection buffers, arrival transfer and check-in time at your hotel.
London airport choices
Heathrow (LHR) carries most premium and full-service long-haul choice to Singapore. Gatwick (LGW) can work for some schedules with different baggage rules. Weigh train time to Heathrow against other airports — the cheapest fare is not always the quickest start to a twelve-hour sector.
If the fare difference is small, a better-timed non-stop can beat a cheaper-looking ticket with a long layover.
London airports — quick compare
| Airport | Best For | Main Advantage | Main Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heathrow (LHR) | West London; full-service | Frequency / connections | Peak queues; often dearer headlines |
| Gatwick (LGW) | South / south-east | Strong leisure short-haul | Awkward from north of the river |
| Stansted (STN) | North-east / Essex; low headlines | Often cheapest ticket | Express + cross-London time |
| Luton (LTN) | North / M1 corridor | Regular low-cost schedules | Early starts; DART/coach hops |
Airlines on this route
Singapore Airlines, British Airways and others appear. Almost all use SIN.
Singapore arrival airports
Changi (SIN) is Singapore's main airport and one of the easiest long-haul arrivals in Asia, with excellent MRT links into Marina Bay and Orchard. Match arrival time to your hotel area — many visitors reach the centre in under forty-five minutes off-peak.
Singapore works as more than a connection: two to four nights is enough for food, gardens and a first feel for the city before onward flights to Bali or Tokyo.
Singapore airports — quick compare
| Airport | Best For | Transfer to centre / resort | Main Drawback |
|---|---|---|---|
| Changi (SIN) | All arrivals | MRT / taxi toward city ~25–45 min | Jet lag — keep day-one plans light |
Airport transfers — quick guide
- Heathrow: Elizabeth line or Piccadilly; Express is faster and dearer. Allow peak security time.
- Gatwick: Gatwick Express or Thameslink. Clean from south London; slower if you start north.
- Stansted: Stansted Express to Liverpool Street, then Tube. Price that before a “cheap” fare wins.
- Luton: DART to Parkway, then rail into London. Fine with a cabin bag; slower with two hold cases.
- Changi: MRT and taxis are efficient. Plan a gentle first evening after the long-haul.
When to compare and book
February through April and September through November often balance humidity and demand. UK school holidays, Christmas and Asian peak travel lift fares quickly.
For fixed holiday dates, start comparing roughly eight to twelve weeks ahead. For routine trips outside peak weeks, six to ten weeks is often enough if you can shift dates.
Baggage and fare details
Confirm checked and cabin baggage on long sectors before you pay. Basic economy may restrict seat selection and changes — read fare rules on the results page. If your ticket includes onward regional flights, check baggage allowance on each flight number.
Review passport validity and entry requirements for your nationality before booking; rules change and airlines will not refund if you cannot travel.
Singapore planning after you land
If Singapore is your first stop, choose your neighbourhood before booking day trips. Marina Bay and Orchard suit many first visits; Chinatown and Kampong Glam suit a different pace. For multi-city trips, check Singapore → Tokyo or onward routes before locking the hotel.
Use the Singapore stays guide for neighbourhoods, then compare Singapore experiences. Car hire is rarely needed in the city.
