Weather & season

Lisbon — seasonal snapshot

A city-break climate: milder springs and autumns, busier summers, and winter weekends that still work if you pack a coat.

  • Winter (Dec–Feb)Cold or damp walking weather; markets and museums carry the trip.
  • Spring (Mar–May)Best balance of daylight, cafés and lighter crowds.
  • Summer (Jun–Aug)Long days; popular squares and galleries book out.
  • Autumn (Sep–Nov)Clearer city weather than midsummer peaks for many travellers.

Straight talk

What we'd tell a mate before they book

  • Match arrival airport to your neighbourhood. A cheaper ticket into the wrong airport can add an hour and a taxi.
  • Travel light if you can. Cabin-bag-only fares often beat a hold-bag 'deal' on short hops.
  • Don't book the first museum slot after a late landing. Build buffer for immigration and the airport train.
  • Mid-week often undercuts Friday and Sunday peaks. Shift a day if your dates flex.

Route overview

Orly or Charles de Gaulle to a hill city by the Tagus.

Paris to Lisbon is a two-and-a-half-hour hop that changes the light, the hills and the supper hour. The useful comparison is which Paris airport you actually use, whether TAP or a low-cost fare includes a cabin bag, and how you will climb from the metro to Alfama with luggage. Non-stops are frequent; a Madrid stopover is rarely worth it for a weekend.

Why Parisians (and connecting travellers) use this flight

Lisbon is the Atlantic counterweight to Paris: brighter, hillier, and cheaper for dinner if you stay out of the most touristed miradouros. The flight is short enough for a long weekend and long enough that a delayed Orly evening departure ruins Saturday morning in Belém. Non-stops on TAP, easyJet, Transavia and others are the normal pattern.

A one-stop via Madrid only helps if it restores bags you need or avoids a 06:00 CDG start. For a Friday–Monday break, take the non-stop even if it is slightly dearer. You came for the light on the Tagus, not for Terminal 1 in Barajas.

Charles de Gaulle versus Orly

Orly (ORY) often suits the south of Paris and many low-cost Lisbon flights. Charles de Gaulle (CDG) suits the north, east, and anyone already on the RER B. Neither is “closer to Lisbon”. The closer question is which airport you can reach without an extra hotel night. A fare from CDG at 07:10 is not cheap if you live in the 15th and missed the last Orly option the night before.

Check terminal as well as airport. Orly’s split and CDG’s terminals change bus and taxi times. If you are connecting from another flight into Paris, landing at CDG and departing from Orly the same afternoon is a different trip — build a real buffer or overnight.

Lisbon Airport and the hills

Lisbon (LIS) sits north of the centre with metro (red line) into the city. That is convenient until you meet Alfama steps with a 55 cm cabin bag. Baixa and Avenida hotels keep luggage days sane; Alfama, Mouraria and parts of Bairro Alto reward packing a backpack. Taxis and ride-hail from LIS are reasonable if you land late or have two bags.

Trams 28 and 12 are for sightseeing, not for airport runs with suitcases. If your hotel is in Belém, budget a longer taxi or a combo of metro and tram. The Lisbon stays guide is the place to match hills to your packing style.

Airport transfers — quick guide

  • CDG: RER B is the usual rail link — allow buffer for peak security.
  • Orly: Often kinder from Left Bank hotels when schedules align.
  • Lisbon: Metro and Aerobus cover Baixa and beyond. Taxis help with hills, late arrivals and hold luggage.

Season, festivals and when to fly

March to June and September to October are the pleasant walking months. August is hot and some lisboetas leave town; Christmas and New Year tighten rooms. Santos Populares in June means street parties in Alfama and Bairro Alto — wonderful if you want that, noisy if you booked a “quiet patio” without reading reviews.

Mid-week Paris departures often undercut Friday. For ordinary weekends, start comparing four to eight weeks ahead. TAP sale fares can look high until you add the low-cost cabin bag; run both with bags included.

Bags and what to do after you land

Low-cost Paris–Lisbon fares frequently include only a small personal item. A city-break wheelie is an extra. If you are two people for four nights, two cabin bags can erase the gap to a TAP fare that already includes them. Seats together matter on Friday evenings; they do not matter if you are solo.

Belém, a tram day and a miradouro sunset are enough structure for a first weekend. Day trips to Sintra need an early start and honest train crowding in summer — go mid-week if you can. Compare Lisbon experiences once the hotel hill is chosen. A hire car is for the coast or Alentejo, not for Baixa one-way streets.

Hills, miradouros and the 55 cm wheelie

Lisbon punishes people who pack for Paris pavements. Alfama, Mouraria and parts of Bairro Alto are beautiful and hostile to a rigid cabin bag after a metro ride from LIS. If that is the neighbourhood you want, pack a backpack or budget a taxi from the airport. Baixa and Avenida forgive the wheelie and still put you on trams. The flight from Orly or CDG is short enough that the first hour in Lisbon is defined by luggage, not by TAP’s seat map.

June’s Santos Populares street parties are the other logistics trap: you will either love the noise or you booked a “quiet patio” in Alfama by accident. Read recent reviews for your exact dates. Sintra in high summer is an early-train problem, not a 11:00 start. Fly mid-week if you can; the airborne saving on a Friday TAP fare often vanishes once two cabin bags and a missed miradouro sunset are in the ledger.

Paris to Lisbon FAQs

How long is Paris to Lisbon?

Non-stops are typically around two hours 20 minutes to two hours 40 minutes. Door-to-door time is driven by CDG versus Orly and by Lisbon’s hills after the metro.

Is Orly better than Charles de Gaulle for this route?

It depends where you stay in Paris and which airline you fly. Compare total time from your door, not the airport’s reputation. Same-day CDG–ORY connections are a separate risk.

How close is Lisbon Airport to the centre?

Closer than most European capitals. Metro is enough for Baixa and Avenida; Alfama still wants a taxi if you have rigid luggage or a late arrival.

When are fares lower?

Mid-week in late autumn and winter outside Christmas. June festivals and summer Fridays price higher. Always add bags before you call a TAP fare expensive.

Do I need a car in Lisbon?

No. Metro, tram, taxi and walking cover a city break. Hire a car only if you are leaving for Sintra overnight, Cascais beaches with family gear, or a longer Alentejo drive.

How long is the flight from Paris to Lisbon?

Non-stop block time is usually about 2 hours 30–2 hours 50 minutes. Door-to-door is longer once you add departure-airport transfers, security and the hop into Lisbon after landing.

Which airlines fly to Lisbon?

easyJet, TAP, Ryanair and British Airways commonly appear. Filter non-stop into LIS and compare bags.

What fees should I add before comparing Lisbon fares?

Add cabin bag, hold bag, seats and payment fees, then the hop to your departure airport and the transfer after you land. Personal-item-only fares often look cheapest until those extras are included.

When should I book flights to Lisbon?

For ordinary dates, start comparing about three to eight weeks ahead. School holidays, events and peak leisure weeks need earlier searching — confirm on live partner results.

How do I get from the airport into Lisbon?

Metro and Aerobus cover Baixa and beyond. Taxis help with hills, late arrivals and hold luggage.
